Chisago County, MN
Description
In March 2017, the Chisago County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the permit for a Muslim cemetery after the board’s attorney had warned the county would face religious discrimination claims. Although the county’s planning staff and planning commission recommended approval, the board had initially denied the group’s permit in December 2016. Following the denial, the U.S. Justice Department opened an investigation into the county’s decision, and the Muslim group considered legal action.
